RATES’ activities in livestock have been limited to supporting the USAID East Africa mission’s efforts in Djibouti to complete a livestock holding facility that was completed in December 2005. RATES is no longer providing support specifically to this sector.
Regional livestock activities for USAID East Africa are covered under the Regional Enhanced Livelihoods in Pastoral Areas (RELPA) in the Horn of Africa. The Pastoral Areas Coordination, Analysis and Policy Support (PACAPS) activity under RELPA includes a component on livestock trade. Links to PACAPS web page will available in the near future as this program gets off-the-ground.
